About Chloe and Lex
Chloe Sullivan (played by Allison Mack) and Alexander Joseph Luthor (played by Michael Rosenbaum) are characters in the TV series Smallville.
Chloe moved to Smallville from Metropolis, with her father Gabe. She's an aspiring reporter and used to be the editor of her high school newspaper, The Torch. Chloe is smart and intelligent, and she has some pretty far-out, though interestingly accurate, theories of the many meteor-freaks running around in Smallville.
Lex is the son of Lionel and Lillian Luthor. He was banished to Smallville by his father, ostensibly in the hopes of keeping him out of trouble he so freaquently managed to find himself in in Metropolis. In Smallville Lex has managed to become friends with one Clark Kent. And it is their initial, dramatic meeting that sets him in his path to seek answers to questions Clark would rather keep mum about.
About Snark Inc.
Snark Inc. is the fanlisting for Chloe/Lex (het) fanfic. (If you're wondering what the het part means, it's short for 'heterosexual' and denotes fanfic depicting a romantic or sexual relationship between opposite genders.)
So, why Chlex? Well, naturally, it all began with Lex Luthor. He is, hands down, the best male character in the show, even Lionel can't threaten his place. I guess one could argue it's the old cliche of fancying the bad boy, though I don't think Lex is your typical bad boy character. Still, I did like the attitude of the character and the fact that he wasn't written as either a goody two-shoes or an outright villain. Grey is good in a fictional character.
As for Chloe, well, I liked the character and her snark from the start, but it took me a while to get over being frustrated with the show's writers who constantly made her pine after Clark. And, amazingly (not), that was about the same time as I happened to discover Chlex fanfic. :D
I admit I'm one of those people who must have a ship to root for in their favourite TV show, movie, book, what have you. I have my exceptions to this 'rule' but they are pretty rare. And this is usually where I find that fanfic comes in handy. What's a girl to do when the daft writers don't realise the potential that are your two favourite characters as a couple? Sure, subtext is good and dandy but when even that is hard to come by, fanfic is a real life saver. :D In fanfic anything is possible. And, as far as Smallville is concerned, we're pretty lucky the show is as popular as it is, as it means more fanfic writers bothering with it, and therefore, getting our Chlex-fix when we need it. :D I haven't even watched the actual show for many years now, but I'm still hooked on Chlex fic, and that is why I created this fanlisting.
